Pablo Vazquez presents his new Demo Reel

Pablo Vazquez, also known as Venom GFX has released his new Lighting & Compositing Demo Reel on his personal blog (http://www.pablovazquez.org/blog) a few days ago, and as all the stuff we are used to see from him it’s simply amazing.

The reel runs for about two minutes and it covers all the breathtaking shots he did for Sintel ( http://www.sintel.org ) and some of his best personal projects, always keeping a great visual level.

Probably this is not the last reel we are going to see from him, but I’m sure the next one will be even more awesome.

Sintel 4k version available

As if the HD had not been spectacular enough, the Durian team has just released a 4k version of Sintel. So, you may ask yourself “What is so impressive about that?”. The thing is that 4k means a resolution of 4096 x 1744 pixels. Yes; you read well, over 4000 pixels wide. Now that’s impressive. More resolution implies also , more details and an outstanding quality of image.

This project has been made possible thanks to the support of the Cinegrid Amsterdam consortium (a group of research labs, new media and art institutes). The Cinegrid project consists in studying the possibilities of the Ultra High Definition content ( 4k & 8k) making this content accessible for the open public.

About the upcoming versions, Ton Roosendal writes :

“The original 4k version (8 bits per color, tif) now is available via the The Xiph.Org Foundation download site too, which is 160 GB of data! We are currently also uploading the 16 bits per color files, 650 GB of data, and which will be finished around 25 February.”

If you are one of the fortunate ones the had the breathtaking experience of watching the 4k version, let us now!.

Blender Artists forum is back online!

As you all probably know, Blender Artists Blenderartists logoforum’s crew had been having a series of troubles with the maintenance of their site (http://blenderartists.org), and it’s been down for a while. But wait, there are some good news!, because some hours ago it came back online as a result of the hard work the site’s developers had been doing in collaboration with CG Cookie / Blender Cookie.

Over the course of this last week a lot of things had been happening “behind the scenes ”. Roel Goofster abandoned his place as owner and mantainer of the site, leaving behind ten years of exhaustive work. His charge has now been taken by Wes Burke, who will be responsible of  getting ahead with the forum by doing all the administration duties, while Jonathan Williamson will be in charge of the moderation .

About what to expect for the next weeks, Williamson writes:

“ In these next few weeks, as the site is starting to re-emerge and gain strength, we ask that you please bare with us as the team works to fight some of the code and styling. There is a lot left to do but Roel is helping us troubleshoot some of the remaining tasks.

Things to know/expect during this transition period:

  • Blender Artists will remain an independent, vibrant community/website with it’s own identity
  • Blender Artists remains an open and freely accessible resource for the Blender Community, and ALL educators.
  • Blender Artists is to remain a central hub for Blender users to connect with other users, artists and developers.

All in all, Blender Artists is to stay the exact same site everyone has come to love over the years.”

Let’s hope all issues get resolved soon so we’ll have our beloved community again on it’s full potential.
